My Thoughts of Pazin, Croatia

Posted by on July 24, 2012

As I have mentioned previously I have relatives who live in Croatia so we planned to stay with them for a couple of weeks until we had to be in Paris to pick someone else up from the Airport.

As I mentioned in my last post, getting to Croatia wasn’t the best of trips, and we didn’t even know the address of the place we were going to. When we got lost on Slovenia, I couldn’t turn my data connection off, and I didn’t know about roaming, so I switch my phone in Airplane mode. When we arrived in Croatia, I forgot to turn it back on, so I had missed calls and SMS of the address we had to go to. The only problem was, we had no maps to find the address. Luckily, who I was travelling with has been there before many, many years ago, so he remembered at least which street they lived on.

When I first got there, I thought the entire town was pretty much a dump, compared to Australia and other places in Europe. But after a few days staying there, Pazin isn’t such a bad place after all. Although the buildings are old and tatted compared to what I am used it, it’s quite a nice small town.

The person we are staying with works on radio and is well known – the same with his Golden Retriever dog called Goldie. Everyone knows him.

Pazin has everything you want, large supermarkets (similar to the size of Aldi), parks, skate parks, tennis courts, soccer fields, large street markets and a few other things. It’s a nice town to walk around, and explore.

One thing I should point out, when you visit Croatia, you have to go to the police station within 48 hours to say where you are staying. We went on a weekend, and they said come back Monday, but we are with a well known local, so they weren’t too fussed. For others, it may be a different story.

With Pazin, I would have to say, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

Hey, nice of you to read it. It’s hard to find time to write it all up though.
